As of 2003, the town has an estimated population of 14,797 and a density of 1,129.54 persons per km². The total area is 13.10 km².
Matsushige is home to Tokushima Airport, from where domestic flights depart for various other Japanese cities. The town also boasts a Marine Self-Defense Force base (SDF - the Japanese armed forces, in this case the navy).
