| • | Thomas Walter Hartfield was born in England on January 13 1841 and died in Brooklyn New York on March 21 1911. He moved his family from England to New York around 1869. He became a citizen of the United States on October 9 1875. He was connected with the ASPCA for about 20 years and was president of the Henry Bergh Society (later the ASPCA) for 14 years. He is also mentioned in the book "Barnum" by M. R. Werner, having walked through a hoop of fire to demonstrate the fact that animals were unhurt by passing through these hoops. He had six children, two of whom survived to adulthood, Blanche Kezia Elizather born on 21 November 1867 in England (married Carleton Eli Mendenhall on 21 July 1885) and Frank Thomas born on 29 May 1874 (married Fannie Hewett).
