Afton Oaks is located inside the 610 Loop between Uptown Houston and Highland Village. Afton Oaks contains many homes built in the 1950s. Afton Oaks is served by city council district G.
Afton Oaks is zoned to Will Rogers Elementary, which is located west of Greenway Plaza and Upper Kirby. Will Rogers will close after the 2005-2006 school year. Starting in 2006, Afton Oaks pupils will be zoned to St. George Place Elementary School in the neighborhood of St. George Place. Afton Oaks pupils are also zoned to Lanier Middle School in Montrose and Lamar High School in Upper Kirby.
The Afton Oaks area has steadily increased in value over the past few years. The median home price for 2005 was $397,856. This is more than a 20% increase from the median home price in 2002 of $330,400. The revitalization of the downtown Houston area has helped fuel this growth along with other areas of Houston located inside the 610 Loop.
