Difino
| • | Lost (Lòsda in Scottish Gaelic; population: less than two dozen; or ) is a tiny hamlet which lies 40 miles (65 kilometres) west of Aberdeen in the Cairngorm mountains of northeastern Scotland. The hamlet is situated near the village of Bellabeg where the Water of Nochty feeds into the River Don. The name comes from the Gaelic word for inn (taigh òsda); today the hamlet has a few houses, a war memorial and a farm. Due to its unusual name the hamlet has suffered a serious problem ever since it was mentioned in guidebooks several years ago.Signs with its name disappear on a regular basis (see street sign theft). This is a problem as the signs cost around £100 (US$180 or €150) each to replace. As a result, the local government of Aberdeenshire tried to change its name to Lost Farm, however in the face of strong local opposition, the hamlet's traditional name was soon reinstated.
