| • | The Sailor Starlights were introduced in the final story arc of Sailor Moon. In the manga, the all-female trio, known as the "Three Lights", adopt human identities as male pop stars, but in the anime the Lights actually gained the bodies of males in their Earth forms, becoming women again in their senshi ("true") forms. Sailor Moon's creator and manga artist Naoko Takeuchi was famously annoyed at the change and found it to be a cheap subversion of her explicit rule that only women could become 'Sailor Senshi.'
Their full titles are "Sailor Star Fighter" (darkhaired), "Sailor Star Healer" (silverhaired), and "Sailor Star Maker" (brownhaired), likely references to the gods Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma in Hinduism. They are most (in)famous for their bizarre uniforms, a leather-looking vinyl haltertop-and-hotpants combo. Unlike the Inner and Outer Senshi, the Starlights' henshins and attacks appear to be technologically derived as they each wield a palm-sized star-shaped weapon in combat from which their attacks are generated. Their civilian names are (in traditional Japanese "family name first" format) Taiki Kou (Sailor Star Maker), Yaten Kou (Sailor Star Healer), and Seiya Kou (Sailor Star Fighter). They are not sisters or related in any way, but all share the same given name. It could be possible that as pop stars, they may have adopted the western order of naming however they write there names in Japanese text (Kanji) in the order Seiya Kou e.t.c and this format has stricter rules than English or spoken Japanese therefore it is unlikey that Kou is their family names; there is no clarification given in the manga or anime.
