| • | Dorion is a suburban community or a town located about 30 km west of Montreal, east of the Ontario-Quebec boundary, NE of Cornwall, Ontario and SE of Hawkesbury, Ontario. Dorion is passed through Autoroute 20 or Highway 20 which links downtown Montreal and Toronto as well as the Macdonald-Cartier Freeway or Highway 401 in Ontario. Other major highways includes the 540 (5 km long) in the west and 40 or the Trans-Canada Highway further north. The highway or autoroute 20 is like a downtown street in the centre of Dorion and through a small bridge. Dorion is accessed with four interchanges of which two are with the highways 20 and 540 and the 40 and 540, and the other is at Harwood opened in the 1990s (Interchange 3). A rail linking Toronto and Montreal runs north and serves a train station. Dorion is situated with Lac Saint-Louis and east of a small strait is Île-Perrot and tens of small islets northeast and further east, Montreal Island, the Ottawa River is about 4 km north and the Saint Lawrence River is around 6 km south. The area around Dorion are mainly made up of farmlands along the shoreline and the Saint Lawrence riverside, forests also covers the southern and the western parts and a larger forest with a small hill to the northwest, forests are also founded on a part of Île-Perot. The area code is 450. Much of the area are flat. Housing developments began in the 1950s and continued into the 1970s but slowed in the 1980s and the 1990s, housing sprouted north and east of Dorion.
