Founded on February 14, 1958, Brossard is a suburb of Montreal and is situated within 15 kilometers south-east of this Quebec metropolis. It is surrounded by 5 municipalities on the South Shore of Montreal, namely Saint-Lambert, Greenfield Park, Saint Hubert, Carignan and La Prairie. Population (2001): 65,026 It was merged into the city of Longueuil in 2002, but voted for demerger in 2004. On January 1, 2006, Brossard will demerge officially. Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours merged with Brossard on March 25, 1978 to form the current city. Brossard is a multi-ethnic city; more than 30% are foreign-born. Brossard is a residential city (with some 14-floor residential towers) with large commercial zones (Taschereau Boulevard, Mail Champlain, Panama Avenue, LaPiniere Blvd) and an industrial zone.
