| • | Balboa is a city in Panama located at the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal. It serves as the port for Panama City and the Head Quarters for the canal. The population as of the 1990 census was 1,214.
The city is named after Vasco Núñez de Balboa, the first European to sail the Pacific Ocean.
Balboa was part of the Panama Canal Zone, meaning that the U.S. had full control over it, until December 31, 1999 when the Zone was returned to Panama.
Schools in Balboa include the Balboa Academy, an English-using international school.
