| • | Yamakuni (山国町; -machi) was a town located in Shimoge District, Oita, Japan.In 2005, the town became a district of Nakatsu City along with nearby Yabakei, Honyabakei and Sanko.
As of 2003, the town has an estimated population of 3,317 and the density of 27.68 persons per km². The total area is 119.85 km².
Yamakuni is best known for Core Yamakuni&#-3485;&#-3917;ࣂ&#-1821;&#-3964;ࣁ&#-29;&#-4017;ࣁ&#-1431;, a large municipal building featuring an ice-skating rink in the winter. It has a junior high school, Yamakuni Chugakko (ॱ&#-859;&#-2307;स&#-1115;&#-1178;ঠ&#-2071; and an elementary school Misato Shogakko (स&#-3415;&#-3849;॰&#-3035;&#-1178;ঠ&#-2071;. As part of its fusion with Nakatsu City, two elementary schools, Tsukinoki (ধ&#-218;&#-2264;) and Mizobe (&#-2135;&#-3864;) were closed and their students transferred to Misato in 2005.
Despite the former town's political ties to Nakatsu City, it is geographically closer to Hita City to its west. It also tends to look to bordering Fukuoka Prefecture more than to the distant prefectural capital of Oita City.
