| • | Gaspereau (Lat. 45:04N, Long. 64:21W) is a village about 3 km southof Wolfville, Nova Scotia on the Gaspereau River. Commonly,Gaspereau refers to the entire Gaspereau Valley, about 15 km long, whichis a side valley of the Annapolis Valley. The name comes from the Gaspereau fish, Alosa pseudoharengus,which migrates up the river every spring. The fishing of Gaspereau hasbeen important to human settlement of the Gaspereau Valley for thousandsof years. When the Acadians came here around 1650, they named thefish and the area, Gaspereau. There is still a commercial fishery forGaspereau in the river. Gaspereau is primarily a farming community, with dairy farms and apple orchards.In recent years many grape vineyards have been established and thereis now a large winery in the village.
