| • | Every year, each of the 50 U.S. State supreme courts decides hundreds of cases. Of those, a few are so important that they later become models for decisions of other states, and even of the United States Supreme Court, while others are noted for being dramatically rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court on appeal. The notable decisions of these courts are divided between final decisions (those that were not subject to appeal, or from which no appeal was taken), and appealed decisions that are notable primarily because of later actions of the U.S. Supreme Court. Within those divisions, the decisions are listed in chronological order.
