| • | Pokiok, New Brunswick is home to the Pokiok Falls. It is here that the Pokiok Stream empties into the Saint John River. The falls used to be a tourist attraction until the building of the Mactaquac Dam in 1967. The construction of the dam caused the Saint John river to rise several feet and created the Saint John River headpond above the dam. The higher water now covers the falls that once were there. In early spring the headpond water level is lowered to prevent flooding from spring runoff. During this time you can see part of the Pokiok gorge where the falls once were. Pokiok is located 60 km west of Fredericton on the Trans Canada Highway. The town of Nackawic is located 5 km to the northeast across the Saint John river.
