| • | Miyauchi (८-1051;-3707;) is a town in Nanyo City, Yamagata, Japan. Miyauchi merged with Akayu and Wago village in 1967 to create Nanyo City. The two kanji characters that form the name 'Miyauchi' literally mean 'shinto shrine' and 'inside'. The shinto Kumanotaisha Shrine (-3351;-3634;।-1497;-1730;) is one of the three great Kumano Shrines in Japan, whose origins date back to the 9th century. Every July the shrine is the focus of Miyauchi's main festival, when omikoshi (portable shrines) are paraded around the town before being returned to the main shrine. Sosho Park (ॏ-3226;-2178;ॅ-1179;-2286;, Sōshō Kōen) holds a rose festival in June, and a chrysanthemum festival (ਏ-3356;-326;ॽ-1817;-1683;ࣂ-3540; kiku ningyō matsuri) in October. The festival's highlight is a series of human dolls made from locally grown chrysanthemums. The Hygeia Park onsen, which contains a small Isabella Bird Memorial Exhibition, is also in Miyauchi.
