| • | Cordova is the easternmost part of Memphis, Tennessee, comprising both suburban and rural areas. Some of the western part of Cordova was annexed into the city of Memphis in 1991 following a seven-year court challenge to the right of Memphis to annex it. Two ZIP codes are in use in Cordova: 38018 and 38016. Much mail is addressed to "Cordova, Tennessee" despite the annexation. The boundaries of Cordova are inexact, as some of the area is unincorporated, but are generally regarded as the Wolf River on the south, Shelby Farms on the west, Interstate 40 on the north, and Houston-Levee Road on the east. The rural areas are quickly becoming suburban, with many family farms being sold and subdivided into residential housing developments. Some parts of Cordova have been settled since at least the late nineteenth century. Grave markers in Sangie Cemetery, on the grounds of Walnut Grove Baptist Church, go back to the 1890's or earlier. Bellevue Baptist Church, one of the largest congregations in the United States, with more than 25,000 members, is located in the Cordova area. Source: [wikipedia: cordova, memphis]
