The Museum of Contemporary Art was founded in 1974 by a group of individuals; however, it had no permanent museum space until the 1980s. Located in Los Angeles, MOCA has three locations: Geffen Contemporary In Little Tokyo; the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood; and the oldest of the three, the Grand Avenue Complex, located in downtown across the street from the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
As the name might indicate, the art shows in these museums are usually made up of pieces created within the last century.
