| • | The Chinatown of Las Vegas, Nevada is a series of vibrant large shopping centers with ethnic Chinese and other pan-Asian businesses on Spring Mountain Road, with the original called Chinatown Plaza. The strip mall was conceived by 49er Taiwanese American developer James Chih-Cheng Chen - born in Hunan, a province in central Mainland China but raised in Taiwan - and opened in 1995. The Chinatown area has gained in such immense popularity and also received national attention in a great article by The Wall Street Journal; check below for the article and author. Even Nevada Governor Kenny Guinn officially designated the area as Chinatown in October 1999. Spring Mountain Road was once a decrepit corridor with strip clubs, but Chinatown Plaza has emerged as an example of immigrants first taking an old neighborhood given up for dead by white residents and then reviving it as a bustling center of minority commerce.
