Umhlanga Ridge has almost been exclusively been developed on land that was previously under sugarcane by property development company, Moreland Estates, owned by the sugar farming and producing Tongaat Hulett group.
Umhlanga Ridge is home to the Gateway Theatre of Shopping, a massive retail and entertainment complex as well as additional outlet shopping, motor dealerships, a hospital and many offices.
