J.J. Maloney |
| | born in st. louis in 1940, maloney spent 16 1/2 years in reform schools and prison (four life sentences for murder and armed robbery). as a convict, maloney educated himself and became an artist, poet and book reviewer for the kansas city star. in 1972 he was paroled and began work the next day as a reporter for the kansas city star. as an investigative reporter maloney won many journalism awards, and spent three years investigating the kansas city mafia.
