The city was founded on May 31 1948 and the mayor is Masayoshi Shimizu. The city is home to Fuji Heavy Industries, Ltd.
Ota is also known for being the home of the car manufacturer Subaru and having one of the largest selections of hostess bars in Japan.
On March 28th, 2005, Nitta Town, Ojima Town, and Yabuzukahon Town are expected to be annexed by Ōta City.totalpopulation of 217,038。
