A fax server provides a centrally located fax system for all company departments, and can save costs from purchasing dozens of individual fax machines. Fax servers consist of a bank of fax modems. These modems allow outgoing and incoming faxes to be processed by the next available fax modem. Fax cards, designed specifically for electronic faxing, are also used.
Both internal and remote company employees can use the fax server. With the acceptance of digital signatures in e-commerce, documents can be signed and faxed without ever existing in paper form.
