| • | Earth 2 was a short-lived television series which aired on NBC from 1994 - 1995. It starred Debrah Farentino, Clancy Brown, Antonio Sabato Jr., Jessica Steen, Rebecca Gayheart and Joey Zimmerman. The show was set in a future in which humanity dwells in space stations orbiting a dying Earth. A group of 250 families decide to travel to a distant planet (G889), in an attempt to colonize it, seeking a better life for their children who are slowly dying from a disease caused by the sterile conditions in orbit. The series, which only lasted a year, focussed on the Eden Advance team who were supposed to set up the colony for the 250 families who would arrive eighteen months later. Things are complicated in the pilot, when a problem with the Advance craft leads to them crash landing thousands of miles from their intended destination on the planet, called New Pacifica. The series follows their trek across the planet to New Pacifica. During this time, they meet a tribe of native ground dwelling humanoid creatures known as Terrians, scavenging creatures called Grendlers, and human colonists who unknown to the Eden Advance team were already on the planet, including one called Gaal (played by Tim Curry). Earth 2 was cancelled by the network after only one season, in spite of the final episode ending on a cliffhanger and a protest by fans. The entire series has been released in the United States on DVD. The series is popularly believed to have been inspired by the tale of the Lost Colony of Roanoke.
